Ever wondered how to fly faster and still complete the task? Practice!

Here is a nifty little simulator that enables you to practice tactical decision making while on task but doesn't require you to spend hours getting around a 300k. Try flying at different speeds between thermals, decide not to take a climb above a set altitude, set your thermal limit for the day and don't take anything less. Practice changing McCready settings and efficient final glides. Fly with and without water. Take note of the weather briefing.

This sim really does illustrate the stuff you have read about in the books but doesn't require a powerful computer or flight sticks or rudder pedals.. And its free. Give it a go.

Download the zip file krasnoff.zip here, extract to a folder on your computer and double click the krasnoff.html icon.
It then runs in a browser window. This programme is distributed as freeware.

Help the club find new members
We all know that new members are the life blood of any organisation and no more so than the gliding movement. Help us recruit by downloading our new recruitment poster, printing it out on a colour printer and putting it on your office noticeboard, in the window of your local store, at school. And remeber there is a reward of £30 in your flying accounr for every new member you recruit. Just make sure that they mention your name when they sign up.

Land Out Poster
You know how concerned people can be when they find an empty aircraft in a field and call out the police to what they believe to be a crash. And you probably know what a waste of everyone's time, especially the police's, this is. Now you can download a simple A4 poster to print out and carry in the glider with you on cross country flights just in case. Just leave this poster in sight under the canopy.

We are always looking for new images to use on the web site and in our other promotional material. If you have any digital images that you are happy to have used on the site please email to Mike Greenwood and copy to webmaster. The ideal size is 400 pixels wide at 96dpi as a JPG which will then be resized and optimized to fit.

If you have conventional printed photos please leave copies for the attention of Jon Hall in the club office. They will be scanned and returned.

In all cases captions are useful, plus a date when taken and the names of the key people in the photos.

By submitting photos for inclusion you are not giving up your copyright of the images but you are agreeing to the images being used as MGC determines at any time without any remuneration.

Lower Alcohol Limits for ALL Pilots

IMPORTANT NOTE
All British flight deck crew, cabin crew and air traffic controllers are now subject to a limit of 20 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, in accordance with new legislation brought before Parliament by Tom McNullty, Minister for Transport. This is exactly one quarter of the alcohol level that is permitted for drivers of road vehicles. It is effectively a zero level set at 20 milligrams/100mlllilitres only because the body produces some alcohol naturally.

Powers now exist for police to test suspected offenders. Aviation personnel face a maximum fine of £5000 and/or 2 years in jail. No distinction is made between commercial flying and pleasure flying - the limit applies to anyone who is flying or working with aircraft, for business or pleasure. On the gliding club site this includes ground crew and wing tip holders.

So if you intend to fly think very carefully how much you drink the night before. A heavy session could find you over the limit well into the afternoon of the following day. Even moderate drinking could put you over the limit in the morning especially if you have low body weight, are very slim or are female!

A CAA Flight Operations Department Communication, which explains things in a less legal form, can be read at www.caa.co.uk/. The BGA recommends that pilots and those involved in gliding acquaint themselves with this documentation
